Updated: Jun 11, 2022

Arrhythmia, according to Medical News Today, is "an irregular heartbeat - the heart may beat too fast, too slowly, too early, or irregularly."

Many arrhythmia have no other symptoms. However, if the arrhythmia is accompanied by some other symptoms, such as dizziness, chest tightness, chest pain, and shortness of breath, then it may be Pathological.

Arrhythmia is often caused by the following reasons:

1) metabolic abnormalities:

Imbalance of electrolytes in the body such as potassium, sodium and calcium, or endocrine disorders such as hyperthyroidism will cause arrhythmia.

2) emotions:

Emotional excitement, due to the effect on the endocrine system, will produce arrhythmia.

3) heart disease:

ischemic heart disease and coronary artery disease, rheumatic heart disease, myocarditis, myocardial disease, and congenital heart disease will lead to irrigular heartbeat.

4) drugs:

In addition to some drugs that may cause arrhythmia, caffeine in coffee, nicotine in cigarettes, and alcohol, when given a certain dose, will also cause arrhythmia.

Our TCM treatment:

Arrhythmia must be treated from not only the heart but also the spleen (stomach)

1) According to the five elements theory, the heart belongs to fire and the spleen (stomach) belongs to soil. There is a mother-child relationship between the two, which breeds each other and complement each other. One of the principles is that "the child can make the mother weak, and the mother can make the child strong."

2) Spleen and stomach are in charge of acquired energy (in contrast with innate energy), therefore they are the source of Qi and blood, and are highly correlated with one's lifestyle. Since the spleen and stomach lay the foundation of Qi and blood, they will easily affect how the heart is working. Therefore, when treating abnormalities with the heart, we have to take care of the spleen and stomach also.

3) Pay attention to the importance of spleen and stomach lifting treatment of heart disease. When the spleen (stomach) is dysfunctional, the lipid metabolism will be disturbed. The symptoms may be heart diseases, but its roots are in the spleen. That is the reason of lifting the spleen and stomach to treat heart disease.

4) In addition, lots of heart problem such as heart palpitations, chest tightness and chest pain are originated from the spleen (stomach). Most of the elderly have a weak stomach, so they must first strengthen their stomach in order to cure heart disease.
