Distension and Gastrointestinal flatulence

Updated: Nov 17, 2019

Gastrointestinal flatulence is a general term for a series of symptoms caused by indigestion. Indigestion is often manifested as abdominal pain or discomfort after a meal, often accompanied by nausea, belching, snoring, and stomach swelling. Among them, hernia, abdominal distension, abdominal pain, excessive exhaustion, snoring, etc. are considered to be gastrointestinal flatulence. The gas in the gastrointestinal tract is excreted as helium, discharged through the anus as an exhaust gas, and a part is absorbed by the intestinal wall. Normal adults will have a feeling of flatulence when the amount of gas in the gastrointestinal tract increases. Long-term dyspepsia can also lead to malnutrition and decreased immune function. Indigestion is only a clinical manifestation, and needs to be differentiated from early gastric cancer, pancreas, gallbladder, and liver diseases, so patients with dyspepsia should seek medical treatment as soon as possible.

The main function of the gastrointestinal tract is to digest and absorb nutrients through the foods that are eaten, through the muscles of the gastrointestinal wall, and the digestive enzymes and bile in the digestive juice. However, the “work” of the gastrointestinal tract is not always successful, and almost everyone has experienced indigestion, bloating, and diarrhea. Most of these discomforts can be self-healing, but if the symptoms are obvious or recurrent, it may affect the work and life of the patient. You should seek medical advice at this time.

While eating or gorging, inadvertently eating a lot of air is the main cause of flatulence, followed by indigestion (due to excessive stress, emotional stress, life without regularity, etc. can lead to insufficient secretion of digestive enzymes), And various gastrointestinal diseases cause gastrointestinal dysfunction, blocked pathways, decreased intestinal wall gas absorption, etc., which often cause flatulence. A large number of foods that are easily fermented and produced, such as beans, peanuts, hawthorn, etc., or due to allergies to certain foods, cause excessive gas in the intestines, and are also prone to flatulence. Others, due to excessive use of antibiotics, inhibited normal bacteria, caused dysbacteriosis, and gas. As long as you try to avoid these factors that are prone to flatulence, such as developing a good habit of not talking, eating slowly, and so on, you can greatly reduce the occurrence of flatulence. Those with weaker digestion ability, eating soft and slag food is the best choice to avoid flatulence.
