Updated: Feb 9, 2020

Abnormal menstruation is a common gynecological disease, manifested as abnormal menstrual cycle or bleeding volume, or abdominal pain and systemic symptoms before and during menstruation.

Patient may experience:

1. Early menstrual period

Menstruation in advance means that the menstrual cycle is shortened. If the cycle is shorter than 21 days, and there are more than 2 consecutive cycles, this belongs to the ovulation-type dysfunctional uterus.

2. Delay in menstruation

This occurs when menstruation has been delayed for more than 7 days, even 40 to 50 days, and for two consecutive menstrual cycles.

3. Menstrual extension

In this case, the menstrual cycle is normal but the menstrual period is extended. The menstrual period in this case is more than 7 days, sometimes they even last to 2 weeks. Inflammatory patients usually have abdominal pain, menstrual aggravation, usually more vaginal discharge, yellow or yellowish white, thick and odorous. The corpus luteum atrophy is accompanied by a large amount of menstruation; endometrial repair is prolonged after a normal menstrual period, there is still a small amount of persistent vaginal bleeding.

4. Menstrual disorders

There are also irregular menstruation, early or delayed menstruation, and the period is either shorter than 21 days or longer than 35 days.

5. Menstrual bleeding (also known as inter-menstrual bleeding, ovulatory bleeding)

What is normal menstruation?

1) Cycle: It is a simple indicator to judge whether women's menstruation is normal. The menstrual cycle of each woman is not the same, ranging from 21 to 35 days, and some people even have periods in 40 days. But as long as there is regularity, it is normal.

2) menstrual blood volume: the amount of menstrual flow per woman varies from person to person, generally 20-85 ml is normal. It is normal to change four or five times a day, with no more than two packs per cycle. If it is not enough to use three packs of sanitary napkins each time and each piece of sanitary napkin is soaked, this is too much.

3) menstrual period: women's menstrual period is about 3-7 days, when the amount of

bleeding is concentrated in the first 3 days, and then gradually reduced until the menstrual blood is clean. Some people will still have a little blood after a day or two after the period. It is commonly called "menstrual blood returning to the head", which is also a normal phenomenon. However, some people have a menstrual period of 10-20 days, and menstruation is inexhaustible; some menstrual periods are extremely short, just "swinging". Both of these phenomena are not normal.

4) menstrual blood color: this is one of the four indicators to determine whether women's menstruation is normal, normal menstrual blood is dark red, sticky and no clot. If the menstrual blood is as thin as water, or it is pink, black or purple, or the menstrual blood is completely clot, it is not normal.

Reasons for irregular menstruation:

1) pregnancy

What is the reason for women not to have menstruation? Experts say that female friends at the age of childbearing find that menstruation does not come. Pregnancy is the first consideration. You can try it with a pregnancy tester to see if you are pregnant. If there is any early pregnancy symptoms, it is best to go to the hospital for examination, more accurate.

2) primary amenorrhea

If a woman reaches the age of 18 but she still does not have menstruation, then it may due to primary amenorrhea. Considering the abnormality of her own endocrine, part of the reason is abnormal uterine function and ovarian function. It is necessary to go to the hospital for diagnosis in order to reduce the potential impact on pregnancy.

3) abnormal endocrine

Endocrine abnormalities are also the causes of delayed menstruation. Menstruation will come once a month, if it did not, and it's not because of pregnancy or amenorrhea, then endocrine disorders may be the cause.

4) environmental impact

Some adverse environmental effects can also lead to abnormal menstruation and no menstruation. This is a trend nowadays and should to be taken seriously.

Chinese medicine treatment of irregular menstruation: we mainly use traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture methods to condition the body's Qi and blood, fundamentally improve the internal organs of the female body and meridian channels, so that the body's endocrine returns to normality. As a result, menstruation can gradually become normal.
