Acupuncture for Uterine Bleeding

Updated: Feb 9, 2020

Functional uterine bleeding is a common clinical gynecological disease, mainly including two completely different types: Perimenopausal functional uterine bleeding, functional bleeding in adolescence.

Functional uterine bleeding is mainly due to dysregulation of the neuroendocrine system rather than abnormal uterine bleeding caused by genital organ damage.

Adolescent functional uterine bleeding is due to hypothalamic development has not completely led to a sound feedback mechanism between the ovary and pituitary, resulting in degeneration of follicles.

Perimenopausal functional uterine bleeding is the most common functional uterine bleeding in the clinic. It is mainly caused by the gradual decline of ovarian function with age and the significant reduction of follicles. The residual follicles reduce the gonadotropin response to the pituitary gland, leading to estrogen. The secretion is greatly reduced, so that the negative feedback mechanism between the ovary and the pituitary is weakened, therefore increasing the blood content of gonadotropin, and finally anovating dysfunctional uterine bleeding is induced by the peak of ovulation.

The main clinical symptoms of functional uterine bleeding are increased menstrual flow, irregular menstrual cycle and prolonged menstrual cycle.

Treatment principles:

(1) Psychological care:

Because patients with functional uterine bleeding lack sufficient understanding of the disease itself and its own condition, it is easy to have a fear of the disease, causing a series of negative emotions such as nervousness, anxiety and irritability.

Such emotions are not only harmful for the normal progress of clinical treatment and care, but will also aggravate the patient's own condition. For the psychological problems of patients, medical staff should take targeted psychological care. First, conduct disease-related education for patients and their families. They can communicate with patients using language communication methods to help patients and their families understand the disease-related information such as the pathogenesis, pathogenesis and treatment methods of the disease. Help patients to relieve tension and fear, and establish self-confidence and courage in treatment.

(2) Medical care:

Most patients with functional uterine bleeding need to use sex hormones when they are treated with Western medicine. Hormone drugs have strict requirements on the frequency of drug use and dosage. Medical staff should carefully explain the precautions of the drug taking process to patients and their families. The patient should be supervised while taking the medicine until the patient has finished taking the medicine before leaving the ward. At the same time, taking sex hormone drugs is prone to adverse reactions such as physical weakness, nausea and vomiting. Therefore, the patient's physical condition should be regularly monitored. When the patient has the above-mentioned adverse reactions, the medical staff should promptly use vitamins to treat the patients in a targeted manner.

Traditional Chinese medicine treatment of functional uterine bleeding, with the meridians of acupuncture patients to regulate the balance of their endocrine system, accompanied by traditional Chinese medicine to regulate blood, help patients adjust the balance of organs, to achieve the purpose of treatment, with almost no side effect.

(3) Dietary care:

For patients with functional uterine bleeding, the demand for nutrients is high, and the daily diet should follow the principle of lightness. It should mainly include high-protein, high-vitamin, high-calorie foods, and should also be supplemented with

sufficient calcium, iron and minerals to correct the symptoms of anemia that may result

from persistent uterine bleeding.
