Acupuncture for Ovarian Tumors

Updated: Feb 9, 2020

Ovarian tumors are common tumors of female genitalia. They have various forms: one-sided or two-sided, cystic or solid, benign or malignant. Among them, cystic is more common and there is a certain proportion of malignant.

The causes of ovarian cysts are mainly the following:

1. Genetic factors: According to statistics, 20% to 25% of patients with ovarian tumors have a family history of this disease.

2. Endocrine factors: The cause of ovarian tumors may be endocrine disorders caused by various factors in the human body.

3. Lifestyle factors: Like many other diseases, long-term diet structure, poor living habits or excessive psychological stress can all lead to tumor

4. Environmental factors: such as food contamination, hormone abuse, etc.

In TCM, there are mainly two explanations and methods to classify ovarian tumors.

1) stagnation of qi and blood

If the patient's abdominal area is hard and she feels pain when the corresponding area is being applied pressure, then the patient probably falls into this category.

In this case, we should first make the qi start to move.

2) stagnation of dampness

In this case, the patient will feel nauseated, and feel full most of the time. At this time, we will stimulate the spleen in order to dry off the dampness. As a result, the tumors will be relieved.

In either of the two cases, we still recommend the patient to check MRI and CT regularly and try to combine western and oriental medicine.
