Acupuncture for Stomach Pain

Stomach Pain, according to Medical News Today, is most commonly due to digestive problems and will likely to resolve on it own. However, if the pain continue for a long time, or is very intense or sudden, then medical attention may be needed.

According to TCM, stomach pain, and majority of the abdominal pain, is due to the blockage of energy flow passing the corresponding area.

1) Coldness blockage

If the abdominal pain is worsen when the patient drink or eat cold food and beverage, then there is coldness block the energy from passing the area. In this case the patient should reduce the intake of cold and raw food and use herb and moxibustion to warm the belly.

2) dampness and heat

If the patient often feels thirsty and have dry stool, and the pain worsen when the patient press the corresponding area, then there may be dampness and heat in his/her abdominal area. In this case we recommend using acupuncture to relieve the dampness and use herb to reduce the heat.

3) Qi and blood stagnation

If the pain worsen when the patient is emotional, and the pain stays in one place and not moving, then his/her Qi and blood may be stagnated. In this case we should take care of the liver so that the Qi can start moving first, and then the blood will follow.

4) food stagnation

This is the most common cause in abdominal pain. If the patient does not want to eat and is not hungry, then it is probably something he/she ate before is blocking the flow of energy. In this case there is specific herb to clean it.
